The Past, Present and Future of the 3D Elevation Program In-Person
About This Event
This talk will cover some of the history of the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP), some ways to access 3DEP data you may not have known about, and information on the proposed future directions of the program.
Presenter Jason Stoker, Ph.D., is a U.S. Geological Survey Physical Scientist and the Elevation Science and Application Lead for the National Geospatial Program. Jason oversees strategic planning, development and coordination of the 3D Elevation Program and related data, tools, and services. Jason provides technical expertise, prepares roadmaps and plans for elevation products and services, and helps determine the long-term vision for 3DEP products and services.
Presentation will begin at 12:30, but arrive early at 12:15 for pizza!
Hosted by the WCNR Geosciences Department and the Geospatial Centroid.
About the 3D Elevation Program
The 3D Elevation Program is a partnership effort managed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Geospatial Program to respond to growing needs for high-quality topographic data and for a wide range of other three-dimensional (3D) representations of the Nation's natural and constructed features. 3DEP informs critical decisions that are made across our Nation every day that depend on elevation data, ranging from immediate safety of life, property, and environment to long term planning for infrastructure projects.
3DEP provides bare earth DEMs and over 61 trillion lidar points collected from over 2000+ projects to the public. In addition to managing these data we must also continue to look forward to the challenges of completing nationwide coverage and meeting growing needs for higher quality data, repeat coverage, and new products and services.
